iLife '09 – iPhoto

iLife ’09 is available ($79 for the single user, $99 for the family pack – to install on up to 5 Macs in a household).

iPhoto is used frequently for me since iPhone images flow into that system. I do not have a ton of images, but once the install was complete that was the first place I went.

iPhoto updates the library files for the new version and then opens up. There are a few changes right away. Facebook and Flickr integration, maps (which if you have an iPhone or gps-enabled camera) the system drops pins and images on the map (google by the way) according to the image coordinates. Very cool!

iPhoto has also incorporated a facial recognition system (called faces) that you can set up images and the system will also find images with faces that match. You can then quickly (after a few “learning images”) find images in your whole library with the same people in it. I have been very impressed with the intelligence and accuracy.
