loopt for the cell

The NYTimes has a neat article about loopt. Loopt is a service for cell phones that uses the GPS system in many phones to locate you and friends/family or co-workers (who ever pays for the service).

I can see many advantages about this service (especially if you opt into it). Right now it is on a limited network and costs $2.99/month but when my boys get a bit older I would consider something like this. For safety and security, I think it would be a good investment, but is it going too far?

Funny thing is many college students are paying for a service the taxi drivers are striking to avoid…

What do you all think about something that can help you keep track of friends and family through the use of a cell phone (which most of us have on our person or very close 95% of the day)? Let us know.
