backup, backup, backup – RESTORE

in an interesting (and honest) article from the new york times, business 2.0 (a technology magazine), the magazine admits that they did not follow their own advise and backup (and test restores) causing a failure and loss of almost a month’s worth of information.

interestingly, the staff was able to retrieve a lot of copy from emails that were sent to a legal department, but the art department had to spend the final week of the month recreating a lot of artwork…

time inc (the parent company) has now pulled their systems into their backup loop, but lessons learned would be that not only is there importance in backing up, but in testing the restores (before you need them).
