Apple holds upper hand in music negotiations
This is a very interesting article about Apple’s power in the music and movie industry. Apple is expected to return to the table with the recording industry in the next month and it should be interesting. The EMI discussion and release of music without copyright on iTunes complicates things.
Copyright (DRM) is expected to be a primary agenda topic and from there the discussions about subscriptions and variable costs per song/album.
By the end of the summer, this should be worked out – for at least the next year, but I’m hoping that Apple and the recording industry create a system that makes sense and continues to be beneficial for the recording industry, the artist and customer.
